Peixinhos da horta

Peixinhos da horta and other Petiscos

As many other Petiscos, Peixinhos da Horta can also be part of your main course. Just paired them with a tasty tomato rice and you will have a proper meal!

Nevertheless, they shine their best when served simply as a Petisco. They are the perfect “dip food” snack: crispy on the outside and soft and tasty in the inside. You can simply season then with lemon or go crazy with yours sauces… tartar, flavored mayo or hot sauce… you name it!

As for its preparation, it is pretty plain vanilla…

After cutting its tips, start by cooking the green beans for 5 minutes in boiling water, seasoned with salt. Stop the cooking process by passing them in cool water.

Bowl of green beans

As for the batter: on a bowl, mix together the flour, beer, eggs and baking powder. Season the batter to taste with salt and pepper and leave it to rest for 30 minutes.

The (not so) tough part is done!

Now, pass the green beans through the batter and fry them in hot oil. Drain the excess oil and you are ready to go!

Frying peixinhos da horta

Eat them plain, with some lemon juice on top or dipped in favorite sauce. Either way, Peixinhos da Horta are mandatory in any Petisco’s table!
